Travel Luggage for Adventure Seekers: Gear Up for Your Next Outdoor Expedition

Kilimanjaro has been a bucket list trip for me for a long time and in just a few days I am very excited to be embarking on a nine day adventure with a group of amazing ladies in Africa – I honestly can believe I will be climbing the world-famous Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with Wild Hearted Adventures!

If you are a travel lover, adventure seeker and love the great outdoors – you will know how important it is to own durable and sturdy luggage for your travels. If you love to hike it is imperative to have a decent backpack or duffel bag that is comfortable to carry and has a decent capacity to hold your equipment. During the trip I will be testing out a range of travel luggage to see how well it holds up.

All about Mount Kilimanjaro

Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at about 5,895 metres, making it the highest freestanding mountain in the world!

Myself and a team of incredible ladies are making our way up the mountain and we will be taking the Machame Route. The Machame route is also known as the Whisky Route, this is one of the most scenic and popular routes on the mountain and offers adventurous climbers beautiful scenic outlooks.

The pathways we are taking will lead us through forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to late sunsets at Shira Plateau to the misty revelations of Kibo at the great Barranco Wall. It will then traverse beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Ice fields to join the Barafu Route to the summit.

The entire climb up and down is approximately 62 km (or 37 miles) from gate to gate. The height gain from the gate to the summit is 4157 metres, which is ascended over six days of around 5-7 hours walking each day.

What bags will we need?

So obviously we will be flying to Africa and will need some spacious and sturdy suitcases to transport our clothing and essential items from the airport to our accommodation.

For the actual climb a large duffle bag is recommended. This must be durable, and preferably waterproof and have enough room for all of our equipment. I am testing out a duffel bag and two suitcases during the trip which must be soft shell – a lot of Africa travel requires soft shell cases.
