Bath with kids is a must. It is a city that has been at the top of my list for a long time. I have heard people rave about it and say what a beautiful place it is to visit and they weren’t wrong! We were lucky enough to make a flying visit when we were on our way to Bluestone Wales and straight away said we need to go back. But a few friends have asked me what you can do in Bath with kids. It’s great as a day trip from London as it only takes 90 minutes on the train.
My girls loved Bath and considering we literally only spent a few hours there out of a week away as a stop off, it is the one place they still talk about. But then if you were told that the Romans used to swim naked, you would remember it too wouldn’t you! To help with a few ideas I have put together the top 5 things you can do in Bath with kids.

The Roman Baths
If there is only one place you go to whilst in Bath with kids, then you MUST visit the Roman Baths. It is in the centre of the city and the most famous site in Bath to visit. It is of course suitable for all ages.
They have fun activity sheets for the kids and an audio guide just for them – actually I listened to the kids one too and it really did bring everything alive!
You can’t take buggies around the Baths but they do provide carriers and backpacks for babies and toddlers.
Bath Abbey
Bath Abbey is right next to the Roman Baths and simply stunning. Another must see if you are visiting Bath with kids, There has been a church here for over 1000 years but for various reasons kept being knocked down and changed until the current one was build in the Victorian times.
Inside of the Abbey you will see beautiful detailing on the pillars and ceilings, and fabulous stained glass windows showing the coronation of the first King of England, King Edgar, at the site in 973AD. If your children are aged 5 and over you can take a Tower Tour and get a great view of Bath as well as seeing how the bells work.
American Museum
The American Museum is a great place to go if you are visiting Bath with Kids. It is home to the largest collection of American decorative artefacts outside the United States – maybe not somewhere to take the kids, you might think. Well, we spent the best part of a day looking around the Museum, which is close to the University of Bath and a short bus ride from the city centre. It’s also set in the most beautiful gardens, which gives young children plenty of space to let off steam. If you have older children and they are studying American history, then it’s a must visit. There are plenty of interactive features in the museum itself that are age specific to keep all kids engaged. My girls loved walking around with a black bear puppet as their guide and working through activities in a rucksack they were allowed to borrow at the entrance. In 2019 a family ticket to visit the American Museum cost £33 for two adults and up to three children, which we thought was great value.

Open Bus Tour
If you are explore Bath with kids, then an open top bus tour is a great way to see everything this City has to offer without walking for miles to find everything. The open top bus tour in Bath stops right in the City center next to Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths. It covers over 17 different stops along its journey through Bath.
The beauty of the open top bus tour is that your ticket allows you to literally get on and off the bus at any stop you like. This allows you to stop and visit as many attractions, museums and independent shops in Bath as you like. The bus tour runs daily and a full tour of the City will last around 50 minutes, so even if you don’t want to visit any of the other attractions, it’s a great way to see more of Bath. I recommend you wear walking shoes as you’ll cover quite a distance whilst exploring!
Bath City Farm
Bath City Farm is a great day out if you are in Bath with kids. Set in 37 acres and great views across the city, it is the perfect place where you can see all types of farm animals.
Not only can you visit the animals but you can follow the one-mile trail will take you through woodlands and grassy meadows blooming with wildflowers. Stop at our wildlife pond and spy on the magnificent dragonflies, newts and frogs. Check out the new tree house at the bottom of the tree line below Kelston Copse.The wooden fort is ideal for little ones to climb and play on to let off a little steam or take a break at the outdoor amphitheatre and enjoy one of their live performances. Admission is free but donations welcome.
