Easter Card Ideas

It only feels like we are just getting over Christmas and now we are talking about the Easter Bunny. I suppose it is hard to ignore when Easter eggs have been on the shelves since Boxing Day! However, with Easter being around the corner, it means the weather should soon be on the turn.  I have already started to see the first signs of spring with tiny snowdrops shoots popping up in the local woods. Such a pretty time of year and the perfect time to share out Easter card ideas with you – the perfect rainy day activity too.

Soon the only thing that will be on our little ones minds is whether the Easter Bunny will come and how much Chocolate they will get but this year I am trying to teach the very basics of why we celebrate Easter by making Easter cards with the girls with a simple explanation. They love art and craft and if you mention the word ‘painting’ then the excitement reaches an all-time high! But in all honesty I know I don’t do as much of this type of activity as they would like.

As a teacher, and now as a mother I am always searching for new art and craft ideas to make with my children and so this year, to embrace the messy play with the twins, together we have made a few different cards as examples of those you could make with your toddler or child. And in order to keep the mess under control just a little, we have teamed up with Messy Me, the makers of art tunics and oil cloth table cloths (along with many other practice baby products). Take a look at their products in the photos below. Poppy and Tabitha are modelling the tunics and oil cloth table cloth – Don’t they look great and so perfect for the job!

3 Chicks

The first card we made was a very simple finger printing Easter chick card. This is a good simple card to start with. All you need to do is dip your child’s finger in the paint, and make 3 finger prints. Depending on the child’s age, either they or you can add the detail. On this occasion, I did.

The Chick Family

Following on from the same theme as above – chicks, this cards allows your little one go mad with the finger painting.

Hoppy Easter

The girls love painting their hands, so I had a search for some hand print Easter card ideas. We started by practicing the cards together. I showed the girls how to paint their hand and make a hand Print.

They then had a go themselves.

Once we got the hand print onto card and it had dried, we painted on the pink ears and I drew the features on.

Easter Egg Card

For this final card, I drew some small egg shapes on  a piece of paper, and using a paintbrush the girls painted them. I gave them a selection of colours which they enjoyed mixing up! This was really good for their fine motor skills and pencil control.

I then cut the shapes out for the girls and we stick them onto a larger egg together.
