Packing List for Glamping

Family Travel· Family Travel - UK· Reviews· Travel Tips

10 Jun

A question I get asked a lot is ‘what should I take glamping?’ You really don’t need all the usual camping gear as most things are supplied such as towels, duvets, pillows, eiderdowns and bed linen, kitchen wear, crockery, cutlery, mugs, glasses, ovenware and cooking trays. Dishcloths, tea towels, soap, starters sets for the bathroom and kitchen which included toilet rolls, tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid, matches, logs, all furniture (indoors and out), highchairs and cots. But always check with your campsite as each place will vary.

What you WILL need to bring is;

Clothing

Weather appropriate clothes – include layers for chilly evenings no matter what the weather, or time of year. Also remember your dressing gown or warm jumper for the mornings/evenings.

Warm bed wear – the mornings are fresh no matter what time of year you go. PJs, Jumper, hat, bed socks.

Slippers – The floors are wooden at The Dandelion Hideaway but can be cold so make sure you remember to take some slippers.

Coats and Waterproof – We probably took too much on the wet weather front, but at the same time the twins wore everything because it was a super wet weekend! As well as a lightweight and a warm coat, we also took the twins snowsuits and all in one waterproofs too. The twins loved jumping in the puddles and mud and this was the place to do it, so by having all of the above, it meant it didn’t matter when things got wet.

Wellies – You always need wellies down on a farm!

Bedding

Although you don’t need to take bedding for the beds, you do need to take it if your little ones are still in cots. We really wrapped the girls up at bedtime and it paid off because they slept 7-7!

The evenings were about 4 degrees when we stayed and the girls wore a vest, PJs, socks, all in one sleeping bag (the baby style with legs), fleece sleeping bag from Snuggle Sac which were a big hit, we took their duvet as a ‘just in case’ and used it,  and then a blanket on top. Sounds a lot but the girls were snug and didn’t overheat!

Snuggle Sac – A Snuggle Sac is a 5.2 tog a specialist sleeping bag designed to replace conventional bedding and can be used every night whether at home or away. Perfect for camping, glamping, holidays or a cosy night at home. The twins loved snuggling into their sacs every night and they kept them super warm.

Other Necessities

Torch

The Dandelion Hideaway do provide oil and candle lamps which I loved, but a torch or two is useful for popping to the loo in the evenings or trying to find something in your bag.

Little Life First Aid Kit

For any bumps and scrapes down on the farm! The Little Life family first aid kit is great for travel.

Little Life family first air kit

Kindles/Books

Great for relaxing in the evening. The Canvas Cottages do have solar powered charging stations for these but we found a portable battery charger useful too.

Travel Baby Monitors – Summer Infant LIV CAM

Did you even know such existed? The Summer Infant LIV CAM cameras work on batteries and also have the option to plug in, they are a great invention for travelling families! They work through your phone or devise so no need for electricity. The have 3-4 hours of battery life and so we used them at bedtimes and nap times to check the girls were settling ok and then turned them off. The picture and the sound is clear and they are very easy to set up. Click HERE to see a full review.
