REVIEW: Park Farm Cottage in the Cotswolds

Our Stay at Park Farm Cottage in the Cotswolds

As I opened up our curtains each morning, and looked out across uninterrupted countryside views, I knew we should have booked Park Farm Cottage for longer than a weekend.

Our family have recently enjoyed a wonderful short break at Park Farm Cottage in The Cotswolds  which is close to the town of Malmesbury in north Wiltshire. Malmesbury is a great base for exploring the Cotswolds area and it is fairly close to fun places such as Westonbirt Arboretum and the Cotswold Water Park. It is certainly a very pretty town which is famous for its association with King Alfred the Great, and for Malmesbury Abbey.

Choosing to have a uk holiday with kids is a great idea as you don’t have to think about long plane rides and there are plenty of places to stay across the UK where you can enjoy the great outdoors and natural beauty spots.

In the UK we have hills, farmlands and moors to explore as well as lakes and streams and there are also so many lovely seaside towns. Choosing a cottage holiday is such a great idea as the cottages provide so much space for a family and really are a home from home. You can often take your dog along too and Park Farm Cottage is dog-friendly and has a brilliant garden for the kids and the dog to run off some steam.

Holidays in The Cotswolds

The Cotswold lies within the English counties of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire and extends into parts of Wiltshire, Somerset, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. The Cotswolds are famous for their picturesque English landscapes of rolling hills, honey-stone walls, woodland and  pretty little villages, making it a great destination to take a family holiday. There are many cottages in The Cotswolds available for holidays and people often visit because of the beautiful scenery and the relaxed atmosphere. There are plenty of places of interest and days out that the whole family will love.

Park Farm Cottage

Park Farm Cottage is a beautifully spacious farmhouse with stunning views of the countryside, it can sleep up to 8 people, with two cots. This stone cottage is detached and is nestled on the southern fringes of the Cotswolds. What struck us was the outdoor space with its large enclosed lawn garden which also has a patio, an orchard with fruit trees and two paddocks. This was great for the kids and lovely for all of us to be able to enjoy some fresh air.

There is also a barbecue and patio furniture which you can enjoy during better weather. WiFi is available in the cottage, up to three dogs are welcome to stay and if you have young children there are two travel cots, a high chair and a stair gate if you need them. There is also private parking available for up to five cars. Let me take you on a tour.

The Kitchen

The kitchen in the cottage is very well equipped with everything you could need as well as solid wood worktops. There is a 5-ring hob and a double electric oven, a microwave, a fridge and a dishwasher. There is a table and chairs if you want to eat in the kitchen area. The kitchen also has French doors that lead out to the private garden. There is a separate dining-room with a fireplace and the lovely spacious sitting-room has original features that add so much to the character of the cottage.

Downstairs

The downstairs of Park Farm Cottage has a spacious entrance hall, the living room which has a TV, a comfy sofa, a coffee table and a wood-burner. There are logs available for the wood-burner. Then there is the kitchen which also has a table and chairs and there is  a separate dining room with a fireplace too.

Downstairs, there is also a very useful utility room which has a washing machine, tumble drier and a freezer. There is a downstairs toilet with a wash basin, it is always great to have an extra downstairs toilet when you have children.

Bedrooms

One of the great features about Park Farm Cottage is that it has four spacious bedrooms on the first floor and all of them have panoramic views of the countryside. The staircase splits at the top of the stairs and to the left is the main bedroom, which shares a Jack and Jill style ensuite with one of the twin bedrooms. At the other side of the stairs, there are two further bedrooms, a double and a twin.

The cottage supplies the bed linen and there is hanging and storage space in every room. Bedroom one has a super-king double bed and en-suite Jack and Jill bathroom with a bath, fitted shower, toilet and wash-basin. Bedroom two and three both have twin beds and bedroom four has a king-size double bed.

Bathrooms

The main bedroom shares a Jack and Jill style ensuite bathroom with another of the bedrooms, there is a bathtub with a shower, a wash basin and a toilet. There is also a modern, bright shower room on the first floor and downstairs there is a toilet and a wash basin.

The Garden

The garden area is very large and it features a terrace area and there are paddocks to explore which have fruit trees. Take care as there is a drop from the raised area at the back of the garden, so do warn young children about this. The garden is beautifully landscaped and there is a wooden Wigwam which is great for the kids to play in. In the warmer months you can also make use of the barbecue and the outdoor furniture.
