Top Things to do in Central Park

Central Park opened its gates in May 1963. Since then, it has played host to over one hundred billion visitors per year. OK, that’s probably an exaggeration, but with around 70 million visitors to New York every year, we wouldn’t be surprised if the park’s visitor numbers were suitably astronomical. With so much footfall, you’d have to expect that all these eager sight-seers have multiple places in mind to be queuing up and paying their money to see and take photos of and generally get the full New York experience. So, what are they looking at, and should you make the effort to come and see as well? We’re going to take a look at that. First thing is first, however, and you should know that with such busy visitor numbers comes the increased possibility of car accidents or other types of personal injury. If you are injured in an accident that wasn’t your fault on your visit to New York, see here to find a Long Island personal injury lawyer. Now, let’s get on with the show.

Fans of the Beatles gather round

John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Will the Fab Four ever be beaten? No. No, is the answer. And for anyone thinking that the Rolling Stones had the inside lane, just remember that the Beatles generously donated a song to the Stones in the early days, as the London lot weren’t up to the challenge of putting out as much material as … anyway, I digress. The Beatles rock. Now, John Lennon was murdered outside the Dakota hotel, adjacent to Central Park. That’s why the Imagine memorial mosaic was installed in an area of the park named Strawberry Fields, just over the road from the hotel. Musicians gather to play the hits. Don’t miss out. And join in if you know the words!

The Sheep Meadow

The last time sheep were allowed to graze in New York’s Central Park was 1934. But the name of the field in which the sheep munched and chewed their way through the grassy growth persists. These days, the wide-open field is used for festivals, gatherings, demonstrations, rallies, concerts, and just about any other word that means people getting together with a common aim. This is where you’ll find people relaxing with a picnic, playing frisbee, and meeting friends. THOUSANDS of people. If you’re passing by, get involved.
