Central Park opened its gates in May 1963. Since then, it has played host to over one hundred billion visitors per year. OK, that’s probably an exaggeration, but with around 70 million visitors to New York every year, we wouldn’t be surprised if the park’s visitor numbers were suitably astronomical. With so much footfall, you’d have to expect that all these eager sight-seers have multiple places in mind to be queuing up and paying their money to see and take photos of and generally get the full New York experience. So, what are they looking at, and should you make the effort to come and see as well? We’re going to take a look at that. The Sheep Meadow
The last time sheep were allowed to graze in New York’s Central Park was 1934. But the name of the field in which the sheep munched and chewed their way through the grassy growth persists. These days, the wide-open field is used for festivals, gatherings, demonstrations, rallies, concerts, and just about any other word that means people getting together with a common aim.
